What changes inside the system?
The equipment pedal rotates or translates a control member. Linkages transmit that input to each caster’s actuator. Inside the caster, the actuator changes the state of the swivel or wheel brake. The exact mechanism may use cams, push rods, hexagonal control shafts or other arrangements.
Why is system integration important?
An individual caster may operate correctly while the completed bed or trolley does not. Lost motion, incorrect actuator height, frame deflection or inconsistent linkage travel can cause different casters to change mode at different times. Designers should confirm neutral position, full engagement and release at every wheel.
