Compare the work, not the labels
If a person must remain with the load for clinical, picking or service tasks, powered assist may remove physical strain without redesigning the whole process. If transport is repetitive and unattended movement creates value, automation may justify added infrastructure and integration.
Engineering differences
AGV or AMR design includes sensing, localization, obstacle response, communications and fleet control. A powered caster focuses on traction, handling, controls and equipment integration under operator supervision.
Selection questions
Map route variability, human interaction, exception rate, throughput, payload, charging and safety validation. Avoid treating either technology as a direct drop-in replacement for the other.
