A Powered Assist System, or PAS, adds motor-driven tractive force to wheeled equipment so an operator does not supply all propulsion effort. A system commonly includes a powered wheel, motor, gearbox, controller, battery, operator input and safety interfaces. Suitability depends on the complete cart, route and duty cycle.
What problem does PAS address?
Heavy carts can require high starting, slope and sustained push forces. Powered assist supplies part of that demand while preserving a familiar operator-guided workflow. It may be integrated as a powered caster, powered wheel module or another drive arrangement.
What defines the system?
The wheel and motor are only one lane. Control response, emergency behavior, braking, mounting stiffness, drive-wheel normal force, battery management and charger strategy affect real operation. The passive casters also influence steering and rolling resistance.
Selection boundary
Do not select from cart mass alone. Map the steepest route, worst floor, thresholds, desired acceleration, shift profile and allowable stopping behavior, then validate the integrated equipment.
